About the Job:

This position is a full-time position that involves shadowing, assisting and supporting all roles of the construction firm including the job site Superintendents, Project Managers, PMO (Project Management Office) and Executive Leadership. The Construction Intern will gain an understanding of the workings of a high-end construction firm from the office and field side and will learn the basics of work performed by various crews and subcontractors. The Construction Intern shadows and works with other team members to gain an understanding of job site safety, construction quality, performance of the established schedules and project plans and teamwork of a cohesive unit. The Construction Intern role will report to all roles of the company throughout the course of the internship and will work in a supporting role for both office and field teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Gain an understanding of the work of all subcontractors to achieve completion of project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to the original plans and specifications.

  • Gain an understanding of how to manage a working set of the latest issued construction drawings and specifications.

  • Learn how to perform detailed reviews of construction drawings and notify keys stakeholders of any discrepancies in the plans.

  • Learn how to communicate any plan modifications to subcontractors for execution in the field.

  • Learn how to ensure work quality meets or exceeds company standards and all applicable code and contract requirements.

  • Learn how to initiate, create, distribute and track completion of punch lists for all phases of construction.

  • Assist in monitoring and executing the receiving, handling, storage, distribution and documentation of all purchased materials.

  • Learn how to track and manage ongoing work, material deliveries, material inventory, project safety and schedule.

  • Shadow staff to learn how to properly liaison with government officials, architects/engineers, subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Assist all roles to maintain necessary paperwork from project startup through closeout.

  • Establish and maintain a positive working environment.

  • Assist in ensuring job sites are kept clean, safe, and secure at all times.

Additional Requirements

Individual must be able to perform job duties safely and productively for a minimum of 8 hours per day. All safety rules and regulations; including the use and wearing of all required personal protective equipment and clothing, and safe lifting techniques, must be followed.

Role Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Strong verbal and written and communication skills

  • Computer literate

  • Strong commitment to learning all of the roles of the company

  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills

  • Willingness to learn to read & interpret architectural blueprints, site plans, and other construction documents.

  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel to/from job site.
